The Finlayson family in Tasmania has been in the business of selling and exporting eels for more than 50 years.

In October 2016, their company, Tasmanian Eel Exporters, opened its newest conditioning facility, a state-of-the-art aquaculture system that has the capacity to more than quadruple output.

Working with two species of eel, the family harvests from dams and waterways throughout the state, then brings the catch to its Bagdad facility, north of Hobart, for conditioning and preparation for sale and export.

Fishing operations manager Brad Finlayson said the family company now managed more than 80 per cent of the eel harvest in Tasmania.
