SEOUL - South Korea's seafood exports rose 8.8 percent in the January-October period from a year earlier on strong demand for dried laver, the fisheries ministry said Sunday 5th of November 2017.

Shipments of seafood products came to USD 1.91 billion during the first 10 months, higher than USD 1.75 billion tallied a year earlier, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said in a statement.

Seafood exports to the United States jumped 17.5 percent on-year to USD 240 million in the 10 months while shipments to Thailand climbed 35.9 percent to USD 190 million, it said.

By products, exports of dried laver, called "gim" in Korean, came to USD 450 million during the 10-month period, a surge of 48.4 percent from a year earlier.
