Peruvian fishing sector production increased by 3.43 per cent in October this year, compared to the same month in 2015, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

In this way, this important economic sector of Peru has already experienced four consecutive months of positive results.

According to the INEI, this growth was mainly due to the greater capture of the species for direct human consumption (3.61 per cent), those destined for canning (106.24 per cent), frozen products (4.09 per cent) and cured products (3,97 per cent). Meanwhile, fishing for fresh consumption recorded a decrease of 1.38 per cent.

On the other hand, fishing for indirect human consumption was affected by the suspension of anchovy catch in the north-central coast of the country.

However, the INEI pointed out that anchovy fishing was authorized as of November 15, when it showed the availability of the resource in an appropriate size.
