Prawns prices In Western Australia are expected to experience their usual Christmas price rise, despite a bigger season for trawlers.

The six-month ban on imported prawns following discovery of white spot disease in Queensland late in 2016, is expected to push Christmas seafood prices further than usual.

Managing director of agribusiness company Mareterram, David Lock, said the Christmas price rise was inevitable.

"[The price] always increases. It's where the most demand is," he said.
