The Undersecretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) and the Embassy of Belarus in Mexico held a working meeting focused on promoting technological cooperation agreements and trade in agri-food, which reinforces the market diversification strategy of the Government of the Republic.

Among the topics covered those that stand out are the planning of a work agenda for the exchange of technical information on the topics and products of mutual interest as well as the accomplishment of commercial missions between producers and entrepreneurs of both countries, with the purpose of exploring the niches of opportunity in the agricultural and fishery sector.

As a first step, the importance and opportunity to generate a more direct trade was set between producers and importers to know what Mexican quality inputs have demand in that market, such as green coffee, vanilla, chia, pepper, cloves and tropical fruits, apart from knowing the mechanical industry of that country, specialist in the manufacture of tractors, equipment and agricultural inputs.

With the representation of SAGARPA head José Calzada Rovirosa, the general coordinator of International Affairs Raúl Urteaga Trani said that this moment is key to expand the economic and cooperation relationship between the two nations, especially in the agri-food sector so it was agreed to establish a work agenda.

Within the framework of the diversification strategy of agri-food markets, drawn up by the Government of Mexico, there is an interest in strengthening trade exchange agreements for the export of food and the supply of agricultural inputs, in a virtuous circle that favours producers and consumers on both sides, he said.

He also extended the invitation to the authorities and businesspeople from Belarus to participate in the 2017 Agro-Food Expo, an ideal forum to learn about Mexico's productive potential and its extensive catalog of exportable products for more than 140 countries in the world, with international recognition in its quality and health.
