| General Chairman of the Nusantara Fishery Community Muhammad Shidiq said fishery officials will go to China for a clarification on the ban on seafood imports from Indonesia.
"We, along with other fishery authorities, will fly to China on August 15 for a clarification of the Chinese government. In this context I hope all the parties involved would refrain from doing destructive actions," he said here on Thursday.
He said it was necessary to take such proactive measure in contacting the relevant Chinese authorities with a view to improving and restoring the harmonious trade ties between the two countries.
"We wish to know what commodities are banned, what merchandize are containing hazardous substances, and where the banned products came from, to prevent retaliations," he said.
He also said by meeting representatives of the Chinese government, Indonesian business companies will know the standard quality demanded by the Chinese authorities.
"In this way, the producers of fishery products would try to meet the quality standards of that country. Therefore we need to sit together and talk these things over clearly and transparently, so we could make the necessary corrections if there are anything to be corrected at all," he said.
He also said that this served as a valuable lesson in promoting the quality of fishery products. "We must learn from previous cases, like those with Europe, the United States and Japan," he said. undefined undefined
