HK: Mainland bolsters live seafood inspection

Dec 12,2006

Guangdong and Shenzhen have enhanced inspection of live seafood to ensure food safety, the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau of Hong Kong says.

Refuting reports that Mainland live seafood supplies to Hong Kong have been suspended, the bureau said Monday it has contacted the Guangdong and Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureaux and confirmed that no ban had been imposed. Instead, the authorities have bolstered their inspections.

All Government departments will work closely to combat seafood products coming to Hong Kong from improper channels, the bureau added.
