National Seafood Market Information System Upgraded

October 22 -23, the national seafood wholesale market information working conference held in Chongqing.

During the meeting, new seafood wholesale market information system(SWMIS) was announced. Li Jianhua, Director General of Fisheries Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture, attended the meeting and made a speech.

Li said the deregulation of seafood is one of the earliest reforming areas. Price liberalization of seafood in 1980’s contributed greatly to the rapid development of fishery in China. Now market information based on SWMIS has significant importance for fishery production and policy making.

INFOYU undertakes the construction and management of the new SWMIS. The executive director of INFOYU, Chen Shuping declared the new system. He said China has established SWMIS since 2003. Upgrading the system is to satisfy the demands of the new situation. The new system carry out state, province and market three levels share management, consists of 80 designated markets as well as 34 provinces. In order to reinforce information quality and analyzing ability, an experts group together with a new working mechanism were established.

The new SWMIS will be implemented next year after two months' online transition period.
