FOOD specialties from Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province, including kiwifruit, farmed fish and tea, are on the table today at the city's autumn agricultural fair.
This is Shanghai's first autumn agricultural fair. In the past, fairs were held before the Spring Festival and in summer.
While bringing fresh produce to locals for the National Day holiday, the fair, which runs until Sunday, is also supporting agriculture in Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province, one of the regions most devastated by the earthquake on May 12. Shanghai is backing the city's reconstruction.
More than 100 different types of produce from 15 Dujiangyan businesses will be spread over 360 square meters in the Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition Hall.
Pu, the deputy secretary-general of the Dujiangyan government, said the city is one of the world's best production areas for kiwifruit. Its kiwifruit was selected for the Beijing Olympics.
The Sichuan Province city also owns China's largest cold-water fish farm and breeds several precious fish species, authorities said.
