On 27 August, a giant blue shark in length of more than 2m, weighing 100kg was displayed in a supermarket of Yantai City, sold at 15Yuan/500g.

As a fangle in the usual seafood market, the emergence of blue shark attracted much public attention and suffered with the dispute on the permission for this sale. According to officials from local Bureau of Marine and Fishery, since only basking shark and whale shark have been entitled as the world endangered protected species, other species of shark and shark products are still allowed for sale with the required market entry permit.
