As the major freshwater fish supplier for the Hong Kong market, Shunde of Guangdong has the daily provision of freshwater fish at 80 tons, which is the half of the total supply to Hong Kong.

Based on the statistics, the yearly supply on the four major Chinese carps to Hong Kong is 30,000 tons, with the market share at 75%. Benefiting from its high-density rivers, Shunde greatly developed its freshwater-aquaculture industry, to be characterized by the high output and superior water environment. Thus, the four major Chinese carps are getting more and more popular in Hong Kong market. Although from 2001, the market share of Shunde freshwater fish is appearing to decrease with the cancellation of quota system imposed on four major Chinese carps to Hong Kong and stable supply upon the highly competition, the figure is still around 50%.
