According to Taiwan Fisheries Economy & Development Association, the insufficient seafood supply in Taiwan market is resulting from the global warming climate and the anti-smuggling efforts from government. Thus, since the early of this year, the increased price in the domestic seafood market has been consistently going up, reaching the highest point within the past four years.

Based on Taiwan Fisheries Economy & Development Association, the reduced fry supply caused by warming winter in 2006 put the influence on the fishery industry development of Taiwan. In addition, the anti-smuggling efforts by Taiwan Province Coast Guards on seafood exports from China mainland also in part affected the market supply since the Chinese New Year in February.

At present, fish price in the local market of Taiwan has got a historic peak within the past four years. The wholesale price on Sea bass is jumping from 30 New Taiwan Dollars/ 500g in the early of this year to 70 Dollars/ 500g and grouper price is from 190 Dollars/ 500g to 200 Dollars/ 500g. As for Black Sea Bream, Snapper and Blue Stripe Perch, there is about 50% increase in the market price.
