New peak on fishery exports in 2006 is pushing GuangZhou at the top

Based on the release from Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine in GungDong province, it said that baring with the negative effects from the series of adverse situation such as the anti-dumping activities from America on Chinese prawn, the Euro tentative re-start policy on the fishery importation from China, the Japan’s promulgation of the proved-list policy, poisonous fish affairs in Hong Kong and the more and more strengthened global trading barriers, the fishery exports in GuangDong thrived to have the new peak last year, hitting its historical high and becoming the top one within the whole domestic area.

It has been reported that last year, within the inspection from Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine in GungDong, there were 21,026 batches of fishery products weighted at 325,853 tons and valued at 1.34025 billion US dollars qualified for exportation. The figures were respectively 19%, 21% and 14% increased to the last year. As for the exported species, the white shrimp, tilapia and eel played the great role mainly to the developed countries &regions such as America, HongKong, Macao and Japan.

Also under the inspection of eight regional branches within GungDong Inspection and Quarantine administration bureau, there were over 10,000 tons aquatic products qualified for exportation, and as for ZhanJiang bureau, the figure was first time distinctly to be over 100,000 tons. Its total qualified fishery exports volume reached at 105,619 tons, valued for 490.35 million US dollars.

As the biggest export region on aquatic products of China, GuangDong nearly took up 60% of the overall fishery exports, as well as standing at the top of the whole domestic farm products exports. However, with its various exported species and huge export volume, GuangDong has been burdened with inspection requirement. Within its breeding, processing and exporting areas mainly located in ShanTou eastern-ward, ZhanJiang, MaoMing and JiangYang western-ward and Zhujiang Delta area, there were 156 hygiene-registered enterprises on fishery export trading and 737 inspection &quarantine-recorded fishery breeding farms for export supply of which 162 was for eel supply, 273 for shrimp, 269 for tilapia and other fish, 17 for shellfish and 16 for bullfrog. The covered area was more than 500,000 acre with the annual output of material at 600,000 tons. Also there were about 99 fishing vessels kept on record for fishery exporting. The figure about total employees in fishery export trading of GuangDong was estimated at 5 millions, either under direct employment or indirect employment.
