Multi-outlet markets booming in China eel industry

According to the 2nd Session of Eel Work Committee held in October 11th, 2007, China, the largest producer in the global eel industry, is becoming outstanding with the annual output averagely over 160,000 tons since 2000. Aggravated by the supply from Taiwan and Japan market, global eel market has been suffering with the persistent oversupply.

Thus, as the strategic exploration, multi-outlet markets fetching 29 countries &territories such as EU, Russia and ASEAN are becoming the new targets for China eel exporters. Based on the statistics, China eel exports volume to other countries rather than Japan jumped to 102, 16 tons in the first three seasons of 2007, comparing to the 5,866 tons for 2006. The figure is estimated to further go up in 2008.
