Increased Sampling Rate and Tariff Reduction by South Korea

By: INFOYU
Dec 03,2006

According to the Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Yantai, South Korea reduced aquatic products import tariffs with the increased sampling rate for inspection. Since March of this year, the tariffs on frozen red fish, squid etc. have been cut down at 3%-7% by South Korea. At the other hand, with the implementation on positive list system, the sampling rate on aquatic products has been increased from 13% to 20%. As the second leading importers for aquatic products of Yantai, South Korea has taken up 30% of the total fishery exports in Yantai 2005, which was 870 million US dollars, contributed from over 120 fishery enterprises. Driven by the decreased export tariff, the lower cost is supposed to create 20 million US dollars as the profit for fishery products of Yantai, by the advantages on price. However, with the increased sampling rate, more emphasis on products quality is required for fishery exporters.
