BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A boat owner in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region reaffirmed the old adage "boats and alcohol don't mix" when he crashed his cargo vessel into a group of fish breeding tanks on the Liujiang River on July 6, releasing tons of fish into the water.
The driver, surnamed Yin, drank a 200 ml bottle of baijiu (strong grain alcohol) around midday when he got behind the wheel of his 20-meter-long freighter. Yin was so drunk that he soon after passed out over the wheel and fell asleep.
The fisherman whose tanks Yin destroyed explained he was standing on the breeding tanks when he saw the boat coming at him. He waved his hands, but saw that the driver did not lift his head. The owner quickly jumped from the tanks before the freighter crashed into them, releasing about 4 tons of fish.
Despite the noisy fiasco, officers from the Liuzhou Bureau of Maritime Affairs arrived at the scene to find Yin still asleep. According to officers, in addition to his drunkenness, Yin was boating with an expired license and will be charged in accordance with Chinese law.
Yin is still negotiating compensation for the destroyed fishing boxes.
