Shrimp Industry eyes on Asia markets

Three-day International Shrimp Exhibition 2007 was closed on 26th August with the full success in Zhanjiang. By the unique occupancy on shrimp market, Zhanjiang is getting flourished through this exhibition, with the newly-signed contractual foreign investment about 2.1 billion Yuan. It is aspiring that 16 trade agreements have been signed in the fair between international enterprises and domestic fishery companies of Guangdong province, making the total transaction value at 905 million Yuan.

Zhanjiang, standing as the largest farming base for China prawn in the coverage of 412,000 mu (1mu=1/6 acre), last year yielded at 150,000 tons which was valued for 9 billion Yuan. As the leading giant within the whole fishery industry of Guangdong province, Zhanjiang is coming along with the flourish development on shrimp trading, striving for the explored oversea markets such as EU, US and SEA.

Although shrunk by FDA detention on China farmed seafood, the export of China shrimp still attracted much attention from some importing countries such as Japan, Korea. As the strategy to cope with the detention for Guangdong shrimp industry, multi-outlet market targeting has been set on shrimp export, by more efforts shifted into ASEAN markets. At the same time, the further exploration on the domestic shrimp market especially in North China is also emphasized.
