The sea farming association of Yunlin County has claimed that the construction of a US$ 4bn (EUR 3.0bn)-steel mill proposed by Taiwan-based Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) will eradicate the fishing and agriculture industries in the Taiwanese county. The steel mill to be erected in Taihsi Village will not be given a go-ahead by local fishermen, if they are not offered with a complete set of measures and packages, according to the association.

The association has also revealed that following the completion of FPG's sixth naphtha cracker complex in Yunlin, the number of local residents who have migrated to other places hits 16,000, including 8,000 who reside in coastal areas of Yunlin.
