Yellow River stretch abundant with fish

Mar 08,2007

The fish population has increased in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, thanks to the four-year no-fishing policy.

Along the river's banks in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a species of fish named the northern tong, which appeared to be missing for years, has been seen again, and other species of fish have also been increasing.

According to incomplete statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture, one-third of the fish species in the Yellow River have been dormant, and the fishing industry has witnessed a 40 percent decline in the past 20 years, prompting the regional government to implement the no-fishing policy in 2003.
