BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- In China's eastern coast, Typhoon Nanmadol has made landfall in Fujian Province after ripping through Taiwan. Although Nanmadol has been reduced to a tropical storm, it’s still expected to bring heavy rainfall to neighboring Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces.

As the storm bears down on the coast, those in its path begin to feel its power. For thousands of fishermen in Liangjiang county, their livelihoods are at risks of being washed away. Evacuations have been carried out, where locals have been taken to higher ground.

Back on the water, patrol officials knock go to each boat, ordering all fishermen to leave. Zhao Jianqiang, patrol official in Liangjiang county, Fujian province, said, "Hurry Up, take your cash and ID card and the boat will take you to higher ground."

Abalone is the only source of revenue for these fishermen. All these abalone are estimated to be worth more than a million yuan. Many are not willing to leave their prize catch that could add up to a whole year's income.

Still, patrol officials keep reminding them of the potential dangers. And those who refused to leave immediately have sped up their work, packing everything they can. Patrol officials say they will wait until all the fishermen leave.

Zhao Jianqiang, patrol official in Liangjiang county, Fujian province, said, "We'll be here in case some of them slip back to continue their work. These abalones are very important to them, but it will be too dangerous when the typhoon arrives."

Fishing boats have sailed back to harbors to weather the storm. Some have been fastened to poles on the ground by ropes, to help them stay in place. Some fishermen are in a race against time, trying to move all their seafood from their boats to shore before the storm hits.
