Number of fry released this year hits new record

Qingdaoplanned to release more than 560 million fish fry this year, a record for the number of fry released in the city.

The fry will include a variety of aquatic animals, such as Chinese prawns, portunid and bastard halibut.

The city has invested 21.19 million yuan (US$3 million) in releasing more than 1.3 billion fry of all kinds and has recaptured more than 100,000 tons of developed fish since 2005.

The city’s ocean and fishery department held a release event June 7, World Oceans Day, to promote the importance of protecting the world’s seas.
