Natural enemies of crayfish
Crayfish feed on fish, worms and tadpoles in a pond and may be hunted by large fish, frogs and birds. In the wilderness, its enemies are everywhere.
Flee at the sacrifice of limbs
When crayfish meets with dangerous attacks by a natural enemy, it will swim backward with its tail bent. If its cheliped is caught, it will break the cheliped by itself and flee away. After the cheliped and walking leg fall off, new ones will grow in. In the beginning, they are very small. After several sessions of ecdysis, they will become bigger.
The secret of the crayfish’s body balance.
There are small stones in the holes above the crayfish’s eyes. When the body tilts, the stones will move to strike a balance. During ecdysis, the stones will fall off, too. After ecdysis, the crayfish will put small stones into the holes again. |
