Chen Wu, a resident in Juexi Town, Yibin County in Sichuan, has netted a 33-centimeter-long crocodile-like fish today in Min River.
Chen told the reporter he put the net into the Huatan Creek near the central hospital of Juexi Town yesterday evening and the strange fish was caught in his net this morning. When taking out the fish carefully, he found it is a bizarre one that he has never encountered in his life.
Some other villagers told him this might be a nationally protected rare fish, such Chinese sturgeon. Later, Chen reported this to the local water resources department.
According to the characteristics of this fish, the workers of local water resources department consider it to be a Chinese sturgeon. However, the final result needs to be proven by the fishing industry experts from Yibin. Whether or not it's a Acipenser dabryanuses, also know as the Yangtze sturgeon, it will be put back to the suitable water in an appropriate manner.
The Chinese sturgeon is a kind of old rare fish that only exists in China and it's also one of the most primal fishes that still exist in the world. It belongs to the rare and endangered wildlife animal and has been called the "Giant panda of the water."
Another two fishermen caught two Yangtze sturgeon in Huojian Village in Yibin County two days ago.
