 "We will likely see 50% shortage of tilapia fingerlings in Guangdong till June",a senior specialist told."Half of the farmers will end up to nothing to stock in this Spring even though we replenish from Hainan".All these are the consequences of snow and cold-wave weather hit in China South earlier this year.

Deficient supply and soaring price of tilapia juvenile make farmers extraordinary nervous in this season.At the same time,fingerlings-cultivating farms are also nervous and keep busy,they are heading into full production of tilapia juvenile .

"April will be the badly-needed period so we are tring our best to increase the output to alleviate the situation",said Liu Zhongqiang,vice-director of Guangzhou Panyu Agriculture Science Institute,who keep receiving lots of enquiry calls during interview."We are planning to supply 150-160 million fingerlings to meet the demand." he added. The institute supplys about 130 million fingerlings every year to Guangdong market".

The price has continued to increase,news from Huizhou,Dongguang,Guandzhou and Zhaoqing,the fingerling price can reach to RMB 0.2 Yuan for one fingerling specs at 1 to 2 CM and RMB 0.5-0.6 Yuan for 4 to 5CM.

"Farmer can't bear the soaring price as you know pond rent,feed and labor cost increase more than 20% from last year,they won't have profit margin,so 10% increase is our upper limit,RMB 100 Yuan increase for 1 million fingerlings is rational,we sell RMB 0.09 Yuan for one fingerlings specs at 1CM."Liu said.
