Hubei expands crayfish breeding area to 1.2 million acreages

It has been reported that the breeding area on crayfish in Hubei will be expanded from 570,000 acreages of last year to 1.2 million acreages this year. Based on the Fishery Office of Hubei Province, the exportation on crayfish has become as the economy backbone, supporting the whole province.

It has been released that one-stop production chain on crayfish has been formed in Hubei, with the rapid development, functioning from production, processing to the distribution. As for the market, the purchasing price of crayfish also increased from few Jiao per Kg in the previous years to 5-13 Yuan per Kg now. Based on the statistics, there are currently 50-60 thousand acreages breeding area on crayfish with annual output value at 50-60 million Yuan in Hubei. The related person of Fishery Office in charge announced: “the expected expansion on breeding area to 1.2 million acreages is supposed to keep the exports on crayfish at the sustainable percentage over 70%.”
