According to the Hainan Aquatic Technology Promotion seminar held recently, the new freshwater farming species first introduced from Vietnam called Sutchi Catfish is enjoying the good momentum on its breeding in Hainan. By growing up to around 2kg/pc in length of 25cm already, the stocked fries in nearly 200,000 pieces are in the sight of a good harvest.

As a quite favorable alternative to cod fish in global seafood market at present, Sutchi Catfish is featured with its highly-densified breeding and firm productiveness in the lower cost even than tilapia. The yield per mu is supposed to fetch 2,500 kg (1 mu=1/6 acre). Feeding on the same stuff as tilapia, Sutchi Catfish can be identified as a valuable freshwater species in Hainan farming bases, which mainly targets for the consumption market in EU, Russia, USA and ASEAN.

As revealed in the seminar, the breeding on this fish species will be popularized in Hainan province once the positive result is shown up on this farming trial.
