Abalone culture is blooming in Fujian province in recent years and becoming a big industry.

Xiuyu district,Putian city, the major abalone breeding base in China featuring for its large scale and famous brand of abalone products, occupies one third of the total abalone breeding output in China with the breeding scale at 2 million m^{2 .} The annual output value from this large sea-culture area used for 230 million roes bred in 26 thousand net-cages hits one billion Yuan.
