Polyculture of Tilapia &Shrimp in South China
(August, 2007)

Tilapia, standing as the major player in China seafood export market with the top output on aquaculture has been identified as a euryhaline species with high adaptability. Even experiencing the low-oxygen water condition, it can still present remarkable endurance, less infected by diseases. However, in China, only small profit is presented on its single culturing.


Therefore, an explored polyculture technology of Tilapia and Shrimp has been introduced and developed during 2003 to 2005, applied in the major tilapia farm bases of Guangdong province such as Zhuhai. Afterwards, the superior achievements have been identified to more efficiently reducing the disease incidence, providing more potential profit to farmers.
